This is not the case in Warband, as a player may assign companions as vassals and convince rival lords to defect.Ī faction will be eliminated a few days after all of their territory has been conquered and all of their armies have been defeated. A player-created faction is regarded as a rebel faction, and the player, as the sole lord, is forced to protect and expand the entire kingdom. In the original game, a player who has created a faction cannot have lords at their service. The player can join a faction, start a rebellion, or create their own faction. For example, Prince Valdym the Bastard will never be found in a keep belonging to Kingdom of Vaegirs. Claimants will never be found in a town belonging to the faction for which they are the claimant. The claimants can be found in random town keeps, and you can ask a traveler for their location for 30 denars. They will never conquer a whole faction without the help of the player.Įach faction is distinguished by a different style of army some have excellent infantry, others excellent archers or cavalry, or a combination of these units.Įach faction has a monarch and his vassals, as well as a claimant to the throne who waits for someone (the player) to champion their cause. They are constantly at war, trying to take over each other's territory and fiefs. (So many Nord recruits had their skulls used as cups that first attempt, oh dear. There are five factions in Mount&Blade, while Warband added a sixth. I know my life certainly got easier when I did that at first instead of following all the "Oh, rush Nords/Rhodoks/etc" advice at least.

Other factions units definitly do any given specialty better than Swadia (outside of traditional knights on horseback for their final unit), so once you know you can pay for them look into the other guys unless you wanted to gun for Swadian knights.īut I still stand by an angry mob of 30~ Swadian Militia as a bargain bin newbie squad. (Swadian militia are worse at melee than nords, and worse at shooting than rhodoks. Unit wise, Tier 2 Swadian Militia are just jack of all trades enough that while other factions are way better at specialties, you'll miss your generic murder hobos who you barely have to give orders to in the super early game against bandits and looters. (And comparativly weak deserters, so long as they are not on horseback).Įveryone suggesting to rush Nords for their Top tier huscarls or Rhodoks for their favorite top tier Ranged units, are taking for granted that the bandit quality in those areas will crush a newbie.

The big reason Swadia is the most newbie friendly is because they have the weakest bandits in their area.
